This enormous star, which is 2,000 times the mass of the Sun, is nearing the end of its life and will eventually explode. The image, though blurry, was obtained using a new instrument on the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile.

Astronomer Keiichi Ohnaka, part of the research team, described the star as "the largest type of star in the universe," with its size expanding as it nears its explosive death. The captured image shows a faint yellow glow surrounded by an elliptical shape.
